Campus policy prohibits non-authorized individuals from performing maintenance work on campus facilities, which are the property of the Regents of the University of California. Furthermore, the idiosyncrasies of many campus buildings mean that things you might do for yourself at home (installing blinds, hanging pictures, changing light bulbs, painting walls, etc.) may lead to complex or even dangerous complications. This is particularly true in older facilities, laboratory buildings or even newer facilities constructed with advanced methods or materials. The campus is a "commercial/industrial" facility, and the parts and supplies you can purchase at your local hardware store are not appropriate for use in this environment.
